PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fluorene skeleton-containing alcohol having extremely slight discoloration. SOLUTION: In producing a compound represented by formula (3) by reacting a fluorene compound represented by formula (1) with an alcohol represented by formula (2) in the presence of an acid catalyst and a thiol, the ratio of the alcohol used is≥3 mol based on 1 mol of the fluorene and the ratio of the thiol used is≥3 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the fluorene.
