Provided is a high-output lithium secondary battery. Also provided is a cathode for use in a lithium-ion secondary battery that uses a nonaqueous electrolyte solution. Said cathode contains a complex oxide having an olivine structure represented by the chemical formula LiaMxPO4 (with 0 < a = 1.2, 0.9 = x = 1.1, and M being a transition metal, including iron or manganese). The peak intensity ratio (I(020)/I(101)) between (020) and (101), as measured via X-ray diffraction from Cu-Ka radiation from the cathode, is between 3.5 and 4.2 and is preferably between 3.8 and 4.2. The cathode material preferably has a primary particle diameter between 20 nm and 200 nm and a specific surface area between 10 m²/g and 30 m²/g. |
