The method involves using an optical measuring system for monitoring positioning and/or scanning of scanning form elements and for determining a position of a marker that is assigned to the scanning form elements. Photos of the measuring objects in focused and non-focused condition are mathematically combined, and a tactile and/or optical sensor and/or x-ray sensor are positioned relative to the measuring objects in X-Y-and/or Z-directions of a co-ordinate measuring device. The optical measuring system is operated according to through-focus scanning optical microscopy. An independent claim is also included for a co-ordinate measuring device for implementing the method for determining structures and/or geometry of the object.
