Disclosed is a starter device for a permanently engaged internal combustion engine which can reduce one-way clutch malfunctions. The starter device is equipped with a drive gear mounted on the output shaft of a starter motor; a driven gear permanently engaged with the drive gear; a shaft member connected to a clutch component (such as a pressure plate) coupled to and rotating around the clutch shaft, so as to be unable to rotate relative to said component; and a one-way clutch which is interposed between the driven gear and the shaft member, and which only allows the transmission of drive force from the starter motor side to the internal combustion engine side. The drive gear, driven gear, part of the shaft member and the one way clutch are disposed between the clutch device and a transmission, and are lubricated by oil from the transmission.
