PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance an adaptability to a high-speed rotation, in an internal combustion engine of a type in which a connecting rod performs reciprocating motion only. SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine has a cylinder bore 2 into which a piston 3 is fit, and a main shaft 4 driven by the piston 3. The main shaft 4 has a first crank portion 5 and a second crank portion 7, and the first crank portion 5 is interconnected to a crank rotor 12 in a rotatable state. The crank rotor 12 is supported by an engine body 1 in a rotatable state by a bearing 13. A balance weight 14 is provided on the outside of bearing 13, and furthermore a planet gear 16 and an internal tooth gear 17 are arranged on the outside of the crank rotor 12. A balance weight 11 is provided in an area between right and left crank pin portions 8 out of the second crank portion 7. Since an adaptability to a real machine is high due to simplified arrangement of members, it is easy to provide a balance weight 14 on the crank rotor 12, the internal combustion engine can respond to a high-speed rotation.
