1,241,205. Cooling exhaust gases. A. ROGNON. Aug.12, 1968 [Aug. 11, 1967], No. 38403/68. Heading F1B. An exhaust system comprises an exhaust gas manifold and cooler A, a flame trap B and an exhaust gas cooler C arranged in series. Exhaust gases from a plurality of I. C. engine cylinders pass through respective conduits 2 to a tube 1 surrounded by a water jacket 4 and then through a tube 12 for radially outward flow through a series of spaced discs in the casing 10 of the flame trap B. The exhaust gases are further cooled by passage through the annular conduit 25 of the cooler C including an internal air passage 27. Cooling fins 28 and 29 are provided on the walls of the conduit 25. Air may be impelled through the passage 27 by a fan (31), Fig.6 (not shown), and a water jacket (33), Fig. 8 (not shown), may be arranged round the passage. Removable baffles may be provided in the passage 27 and in the inlet pipe 12 to the flame trap B.
|
