The device (D) has a storage unit (MS) storing user identities corresponding to identifiers and descriptions of applications (A1-AN) and profiles used by the users with the identities. An analyzing unit (MA) accesses the storage unit when one of the users desires to use one of the applications, to determine the identity of the user partially corresponding to the application for selecting an authorized identity to be used by the application with a part of the profile associated with the selected identity in the storage unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for automatically managing identities and profiles of users of communication equipments connected to a communication network.
