A corrosion sensor for detecting the action of corrosive media includes a substrate, a conductive thin film formed on the substrate, and a layer of a protective substance which partially overlays the conductive thin film. The protective substance includes a corrosion inhibitor, and has a plurality of defects formed therein. Each defect exposes a portion of the underlying conductive thin film. The defects are in the form of a two dimensional array.
