PURPOSE: A static VAR compensator is provided to secure a reactive power margin for stabilizing electric power system. CONSTITUTION: A transformer(400) is connected to a bus lines of an electric power system. A thyristor valve(600) controls the voltage of the same phase as the electric power system. A tab switching part(500) varies the winding ratio of the transformer. A controller(100) creates a control signal which drives the thyristor valve. The controller offers tap up signal or the tap down signal to the tap switching part.
