Chloroprene is stabilized by a product ob. tained by (a) adding an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal nitrite to 1,3-dichloro-butene-2 or di-isobutylene, (b) adding concentrated hydrochloric or sulphuric acid to the mixture so obtained, and (c) recovering the reaction product from the metal salt also formed.
