A turbocharger (50) comprising:
a compressor (60) comprising a compressor housing (61) and a compressor wheel (63) mounted in the compressor housing (61);
a turbine (70) comprising a turbine housing (71) and a turbine wheel (74) mounted in the turbine housing (71);
a shaft (52) connecting the compressor wheel to the turbine wheel;
a center housing (90) disposed between and mounted to the compressor and turbine housings, the center housing (90) defining a bore that receives the shaft (52) therethrough;
a hydrodynamic foil bearing assembly (100) mounted in the bore of the center housing rotatably supporting the shaft;
wherein the center housing (90) defines a cooling air supply passage (94) leading into the bore for supplying cooling air to the foil bearing assembly (100), and cooling air discharge passages (96) arranged to receive said cooling air after said cooling air has cooled the foil bearing assembly (100);
a cooling air supply line (36) coupled to the cooling air supply passage (94) of the center housing (90); and
a reverse pitot tube (40) connected to the cooling air supply line (36) for extracting cooling air from an engine air intake and delivering the cooling air into the cooling air supply line (36).
