1,214,930. Stabilizing polyesters. FMC CORP. 5 June, 1968 [30 Oct., 1967], No. 26736/68. Heading C3R. Saturated linear polyesters or copolyesters are thermally stabilized by addition of silicon isocyanate Si(NCO) 4 , phosphorus isocyanate P(NCO) 3 , or phosphoryl isocyanate OP(NCO) 3 . Preferably the stabilizer is added to the polyester resin in an amount of 0À01-0À5% by weight based on the weight of the polyester, the resin preferably being molten. There is described the addition of the above stabilizers to polyethylene terephthalate, but the derivatives of other dicarboxylic acids (e.g. isophthalic acid or 4,41-diphenyl-dicarboxylic acid) and diols (e.g. glycols of formula HO-C n H 2n -OH, where n=2-10) may be used. Examples are given of the formation of polyethylene terephthalate.
|
