PURPOSE: A device and method for controlling a single phase induction motor are provided to stably operate the single phase induction motor at a low voltage region. CONSTITUTION: A main winding switch(230) is connected to a main winding(210). A sub winding switch(240) is connected to a sub winding(220). A voltage detecting unit(500) detects an input voltage applied from an external source(100). A control unit(300) switches the main winding switch and the sub winding switch based on the detected voltage. A power supply unit(400) converts the input voltage to the driving voltage of the control unit and outputs the converted voltage.
