A stranding machine comprises a plurality of spaced strands 1 each rotatably supporting a shaft 6, a pair of frusto-conical guide members 14 with circumferential ribs 21 containing strand guides 20, a pair of weighted balancing wheels 11, a sleeve 5 containing axial strand guide bores 23, and a toothed driving pulley or gear wheel 7, a weighted spool-supporting cradle 15 being rotatably mounted between adjacent shaft ends. Strand 17 from a spool 16 passes through a bore 22 in the shaft 6, commencing on its axis, through the weighted wheel 11 and the sleeve 5, passing around subsequent cradles by passing through the guides 20 in the guide members 14, before reaching a closing die (not shown). |
