PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a headlight control device capable of detecting a headlight of an opposite vehicle or a tail light of a proceeding vehicle by simple processing. SOLUTION: The headlight control device controlling a headlight of a vehicle 10 comprises an optical filter 11 allowing light in a specified wavelength zone to permeate, an image pick-up element 12 shooting the front side of the vehicle through the optical filter 11, an area measuring portion 23 measuring the size of an area where light in the specified wavelength zone of an area in an image obtained by the image pick-up element 12, a determination portion 24 determining whether the size of the area measured by the area measuring portion 23 is within a predetermined range or not, and a headlight control unit 3 controlling the headlight 4 of the vehicle 10 to be a low beam when the determining portion 24 determines that the size of the area is within the predetermined range.
