In a turn indicating system a switch arm (126) is movable to make momentary connection with one of two contacts (126l or 126r, Fig. 3, not shown) thereby energizing a corresponding relay (Rl or Rr) which holds itself on through one pair of contacts (e.g. Rl1) ; another pair of contacts (Rl4) connect the required front signal light (240) to a flasher unit (212), and a further set of contacts (Rl5) disconnects the required rear light from a brake switch (248) and connects it to the flasher unit. The hold-on circuit for each relay includes normally closed contacts of the other relay (Rr2 or Rl2) and a switch (170 or 172) which is opened by operation of the steering wheel in the opposite direction. The holding circuit can thus be broken either by return movement of the steering after making the turn or by operating the turn switch in the opposite direction; in the latter case both relays are energized through the switch arm (126) but both holding circuits are broken so that both are de-energized when the switch is released. Operation of switches by steering mechanism.- A cancelling member (158, Fig. 1, not shown) is rotated frictionally by the steering column and is provided with a pair of axially-extending lugs (156) defining an aperture in to which the end of an actuating member (144) is spring-biased. The sides of the actuating member are engaged by the operating members of a pair of switches (170 and 172) so that when the steering column rotates, the actuating member pivots and allows one switch to open whilst maintaining the other closed. Turn indicator switch.-A yoke (134, Fig. 2, not shown), is rotatable by an operating lever (126) so that it engages one or other of a pair of fixed contacts (136, 138). The ends of the yoke are connected to a centring spring 132 which returns the switch to its centre position if it is not held engaged. |
