1290542 Controlling vehicles SOC DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES PANHARD & LEVASSOR 29 Oct 1969 [29 Oct 1968] 53061/69 Heading B7H [Also in Division F2] A vehicle having a steering axle (which may be a driving axle) has a non-steering driving axle of which the wheels are driven by the output shafts 1, 1a of a differential 2 having a self locking device (e.g. cones 15, 15a splined on the shafts 1, 1a urgeable against surfaces 18, 18a due to the inclined mating faces of teeth 14, 16, 14a, 16a) has an independent brake F G , F D on each shaft 1, la operable selectively to assist steering (e.g. by apparatus 65) and means (e.g. pistons 24, 24a acting via sleeves 54, 54a) to counteract the self locking of the differential when either brake is actuated. Pressurized fluid from a source 79 via the apparatus 65 controlled by a pinion 68 on the vehicle steering mechanism may be used to selectively operate the brakes F G , F D which via apparatus 28 connect the fluid to lines 37, 38 and the pistons 24, 24a. These may apply load to the sleeves 54, 54a via needle roller thrust bearings 57, 57a. |
