For e.g. detergents are of formula: where m = 3, R1-3 are alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aromatic; X = N or P (n = 1) or S (n = 0), R1-2 or R1-3 and X can be joined to form heterocycle; are made by conventional oxidation of I, where m = 2. When X = N, R1-3 may not all be alkyl.
