PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for disposing food waste are provided to reduce unnecessary power consumption by implementing a food waste disposing process when a filtering sieve is separated from a sink ball for a pre-set period of time. CONSTITUTION: A hollow housing(116) is arranged at the lower side of a sink. A filtering sieve(112) is detachably installed in the housing. A sink ball(110) includes a separation detecting sensor(118) detects whether the filtering sieve is separated from the housing. A drying part processes food waste introduced into the sink ball. A controlling part controls the start of a food waste disposal process.
