<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning member which can clean well foreign matter that is stuck between a developer carrier and a layer thickness restriction member. <P>SOLUTION: The cleaning member 1 includes a cleaning part 10 and a grasping part 50. During cleaning operation, a projecting part 30 arranged on an end of the cleaning part 10 is inserted into a nip part N between the developing roller 84 and the layer thickness restriction blade 88 by holding the grasping part. Then, the cleaning member 1 is made to carry out a sliding movement along the nip part N while making an extending part 70b arranged on the grasping part 50 interfere with a developing case 82 of a developing cartridge 80.
