PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid cleaning apparatus which removes phosphorus contained in waste water. SOLUTION: Iron ions 3 of a concentration equal to or more than the phosphorus concentration in a liquid 2 to be cleaned are added to the liquid 2 to be cleaned; phosphorus is connected with iron ions to form flocs; the liquid 2a to be cleaned in which the flocs are formed is caused to pass into gaps among powdery, granular or pellet-shaped adsorbents 18, 28 made of magnesium hydroxide; the flocs are aggregated to form large blocks of about 300 times the floc, and the flocs are caught with filters 21, 31 having a mesh of about 100 times the floc itself. Therein, the concentration of the added iron ions 3 can be restricted to the addition of an extremely small amount of iron ions which is nearly equal to the phosphorus content concentration; the reaction time can be instantly adjusted; therefore, the apparatus is considerably miniaturized and can be inexpensively fabricated and the running cost is also drastically reduced.
