A portable cutting machine (40) comprises a saw blade (56) for cutting a workpiece, which has a saw blade plane; a housing (42); and a protective cover (64) movably mounted on said housing (42). The protective cover (64) is provided with a saw blade through hole (72) through which the saw blade (56) passes. The protective cover (64) is movable between a first position and a second position relative to said housing (42). When the protective cover (64) is in the first position, said saw blade (56) does not pass through the saw blade through hole (72). When the protective cover (64) is in the second position, said saw blade (56) passes through the saw blade through hole (72). One of the protective cover (64) and the housing (42) is provided with arc guide rails (80a, 80b, 80c, 80d), and the other is provided with position limiting members (124). The position limiting members (124) are matched with the arc guide rails (80a, 80b, 80c, 80d), thereby limiting the displacement of the protective cover (64) along the normal direction of the arc guide rails (80a, 80b, 80c, 80d).
