The method involves modulating the frequency of a transmitter linearly in successive time intervals. The video signals are mixed with a predetermined harmonics of the modulation signals as reference signals. The rectified signals are compared with each other in an evaluation circuit, whether their adjusted gauge level exceeds a predetermined low value over a predetermined time period. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for determining the point of time, in which a moving object obtains a predetermined distance to an object by return beam measurement object, particularly for determining the ignition point of a radar proximity fuse function.
