PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an optical unit from being decentered or falling down even when the moving amount of the optical unit and the interval between optical units are large. SOLUTION: The image pickup apparatus includes a lens barrel. The lens barrel is configured to move a first optical unit 1 and second optical units 2, 3, 6 and 4 in an optical axis direction for zooming. The lens barrel includes a linear movement cylinder 9 movable in the optical axis direction, and a rotation cylinder 7 that includes an outer circumferential cam 21 and inner circumferential cams 22-24 on its outer circumferential surface and inner circumferential surface, is movable in the optical axis direction integrally with the linear movement cylinder, rotates around the optical axis so as to move the first optical unit in the optical axis direction through the outer circumferential cam and so as to move the second optical unit in the optical axis direction through the inner circumferential cam. The second optical unit is guided in the optical axis direction by guide bars 14a-14d held by the linear movement cylinder.
