PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for measuring simply the amount and the quality of humus contained in soil. SOLUTION: A solution of humus extracted from soil, with each transmission amount of a light having at least one or more wavelengths selected from among wavelengths, in the range of 400-600 nm and light having at least one or more wavelengths selected from wavelengths in the range of 600-800 nm, and a detection amount of the light having the wavelength acquired, while irradiating the liquid with the light and further with excitation light are measured, and the amount and the quality of humus are measured based thereon.
