PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the curing time of a resin compound in a production process for the sheet molding compound. SOLUTION: A reinforcing fiber for a sheet molding compound comprises a reinforcing fiber having a thickener with a 40-200 m<SP>2</SP>/g BET specific surface area adhered thereto. After producing a resin compound including at least an unsaturated polyester resin, a polymerizable monomer, and a low shrinkage agent, the reinforcing fiber for a sheet molding compound having a thickener adhered thereto is introduced into the resin compound.
