<p>Disclosed is a light emitting element having a high light pick-up efficiency. The light emitting element is comprised of a light source (5); a light guide element (1) which has a pair of parallel total reflection main surfaces (1aa, 1ac), a plurality of side surfaces (1a) including the surfaces (1ab, 1ad) other than the total reflection main surfaces (1aa, 1ac), a light incident surface (3) by which the light emitted from the light source (5) reaches one of the total reflection main surfaces (1aa, 1ac), and a bottom surface (1b) opposed to the light incident surface (3); a clad portion (2) which is provided on the side surface of the light guide element (1), other than the total reflection main surfaces (1aa, 1ac), and which has a refractive index smaller than that of the light guide element (1); and a light pick-up portion (4) provided at a part of the total reflection main surfaces (1aa, 1ac).</p> |
