A method for charging an energy storage device of an electric or a hybrid electric vehicle, comprises inductively coupling the energy storage device to an electricity network or sub network, transferring electrical energy to the energy storage device via the network, monitoring the power available to the network, and varying the energy storage device charging demand in accordance with the power available to the network.
