Disclosed are a fingerprint authentication apparatus and method, which process fingerprint data inputted through a plurality of fingerprint sensors, in order to use the processed data in authentication, to thereby improve security and performance. The fingerprint authentication apparatus according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a first sensor which acquires first fingerprint data from a user; a second sensor which acquires second fingerprint data that is different from the first fingerprint data; and a control unit which determines whether or not to authenticate the user on the basis of the similarity resulting from the comparison of the first and second fingerprint data acquired by the first and second sensors with registered fingerprint data. The present invention uses a combination of fingerprint data inputted through the plurality of fingerprint sensors in authentication, to lower both the false-rejection rate and the false-acceptance rate, thereby obtaining a stable and accurate result of user authentication.
