<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately perform a foreign matter-removing process about a variable valve timing mechanism, in an engine with the variable valve timing mechanism to which an intermittent operation is applied. <P>SOLUTION: The engine control device 16 capable of executing the intermittent operation about the engine 12 including the variable valve timing mechanism 80 includes a determination part (a step S10) for determining abnormality of the variable valve timing mechanism 80, a foreign matter-removing process execution part (a step S12) for executing the foreign matter-removing process about the variable valve timing mechanism 80 when a failure of the variable valve timing mechanism 80 is determined by the determination part while the engine is being operated, and an intermittent operation control inhibition part (a step S16) for inhibiting the intermitting operation control of the engine 12 while the foreign matter-removing process of the variable valve timing mechanism 80 is being executed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
