PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a gas oil composition which is effective for reduction of exhaust gas (especially particulate matter), with which particular enhancement of moisture control in a flow system is not necessary, and which prevents lowering of flash point observed in ethanol-mixed gas oil and does not deteriorate combustion efficiency. SOLUTION: The gas oil composition has density at 15°C of 0.810-0.900 g/cm<SP>3</SP>, a sulfur content of 10 mass ppm or less, a cetane number of 42-65, a moisture content of equal to or more than 1 vol.% and less than 10 vol.%, and an ethanol content of 1-20 vol.%.
