PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal coating optical fiber that is effective for preventing infiltration of hydrogen into an optical fiber. SOLUTION: The metal coating optical fiber includes an optical fiber and a metallic film in which a first, a second and a third plating layer for coating the outer circumference of the optical fiber are successively superimposed and arranged. The metal coating optical fiber is characterized in that the first plating layer is electroless copper, that the second plating layer is electrolytic copper, and that the third plating layer is amorphous nickel.
