The present invention relates to pomegranate extracts comprising polyphenols useful in improving health and methods of use thereof. Specifically, the present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising a pomegranate extract that contains polyphenols having antioxidant properties. The invention further includes methods for maintaining or increasing bone mineral content or bone density, or for preventing bone loss in humans and animals.
