1,145,666. Motor car doors; luggage racks. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. 6 April, 1967 [13 April, 1966], No. 15815/67. Heading B7J. A double door 2 of metal or plastics is supported by a middle arm or reinforcing strut 3 about a joint 4, 6 comprising a torsion spring or rod, and consists of portions 7 and 8 which swing about a joint 9 as shown when the door is opened. A portion 11 of the roof is also carried by the arm 3, which arm may be hollow and formed with ventilating air inlet and/or outlet openings. Instead of a single arm 3 the door may be provided with two convergent or divergent arms, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), and the upper half only of the door may swing upwardly, the lower half being divided vertically and hinged as normal doors. The torsion rods normally bias the door to an open position and with their surrounding torsion tubes and transverse members may be arranged to form a luggage rack, Fig. 6 (not shown). Lights (29) may be disposed on the rods or their mountings. |
