A slide bar assembly (20) with a slide bar (26) supporting a bracket assembly (28) suitable for retaining a handheld showerhead (30) is disclosed. A brake assembly releasably couples the bracket assembly (28) to the slide bar (26) via a user-actuated trigger (42) in order to allow the user to adjust the height of the showerhead (30). The brake assembly consists of a spring biasing a brake pad onto the slide bar (26), the pad moved against the bias when the trigger (42) is depressed freeing the bracket assembly (28) to move along the slide bar (26). The slide bar assembly (20) further includes a wall mounting assembly (24) that is configured to connect the slide bar (26) to the shower wall (22).
