PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium feeder which imparts proper rotational resistance, in response to a change in a situation, to a support shaft for supporting a recording medium, and automates the switching of the rotational resistance imparted to the support shaft. SOLUTION: A driving force switching means (4) transmits a driving force to a feed roller via the first driving force transmitting means (32) by the first-directional rotation of a motor, and does not transmit the driving force to the feed roller via the first driving force transmitting means by the rotation in the second direction reverse to the first direction of the motor, and a rotational resistance switching means (5) includes a torque limiter (51c) brought into a limit state by the first-directional rotation of the motor, and brought into an open state by the second-directional rotation of the motor.
