PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems of a conventional wheelchair wherein a side part with a large degree of projection is an obstacle to an occupant in the transfer from the wheelchair to a bed, etc. and wherein the projection of the side part is a great burden for the occupant of the wheelchair because the occupant of the wheelchair has weaker physical strength than general people. SOLUTION: The wheelchair includes side parts 14 and 15 disposed on both sides of a back part 20, a pressure detecting part disposed on a seat part 21, and an occupation state determining part determining the state of occupation of the occupant by the pressure detecting part. When the occupation state determining part determines the state of occupation as the transfer state, an operation part reduces the degree of projection of the side parts 14 and 15 relative to the back part 20. As the degree of projection of the side parts 14 and 15 is automatically reduced when the occupant transfers from the wheelchair to the bed, etc., burdens on the occupant can be reduced.
