PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which is capable of saving the time and labor of the maintenance of a filter without increasing the weight or volume of a cleaner body to suppress the decline of suction force, and is excellent in handleability for a user. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes: a cleaner body 5 having an electric blower 8 for sucking dust from a floor nozzle; a dust collecting chamber 51 provided on the suction side of the electric blower 8 in the cleaner body 5; a dust collecting filter 7 inserted between the dust collecting chamber 51 and the electric blower 8; a check valve 6 freely openably and closably provided on the suction port 51a of the dust collecting chamber 51 communicating with the floor nozzle; and a driving circuit 9 for driving the electric blower 8. The driving circuit 9 reversely rotates the electric blower 8 to blow air from the electric blower 8 to the dust collecting chamber 51, closes the suction port 51a of the dust collecting chamber 51 by the check valve 6, and removes the dust stuck to the dust collecting filter 7.
