Disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition containing 500 to 1500 millimoles per liter of lactic acid or lactate, 1.2 to 1.7 millimoles per liter of calcium, and 2.5 to 6 millimoles per liter potassium. Also disclosed is the use of said composition for treating or preventing diseases or conditions selected from the group consisting of hypovolemia, operative treatment of patients, post-operative treatments of patients, cardiovascular diseases, brain disorders, organ failure, obesity, resuscitation, edema and acute hemodynamic distress due to medical treatment and surgery.
