PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard carbon film-coated cutting tool exhibiting excellent wear resistance over a long-term use, since it is excellent in adhesion strength with a tool base body and has lubricity, slidability and deposition resistance. SOLUTION: In the hard carbon film-coated cutting tool in which the tool base body surface made of WC-based cemented carbide is coated with a hard carbon film, a fine-grained diamond layer having an average particle diameter of 0.1 μm or less and an average film thickness of 0.5-6 μm is formed on the tool base body surface whose surface roughness is preferably set to be Ra: 0.01-3.0 μm as a first layer of the hard carbon film, and if necessary, a fine-grained diamond layer having an average particle diameter of 0.1 μm or less and an average film thickness of 0.1-5 μm is formed through a medium-grained diamond layer and a crystalline diamond layer, and thereon a DLC layer having an average film thickness of 0.1-6 μm is formed as an outermost layer of the hard carbon film.
