PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine whose size can be suppressed by preventing the extension of an oxygen concentration sensor to the outside of a cylinder head when the oxygen concentration sensor is provided on the cylinder head at a position where the temperature of exhaust gas is high, and to provide a saddle type vehicle equipped therewith. SOLUTION: The engine 36 includes the cylinder head 46 having a protrusion 66 protruded from a head body 65 to the outside, a combustion recess 70 formed in the head body 65, an exhaust passage 80 formed passing from the combustion recess 70 through the protrusion 66 for exhausting exhaust gas from the combustion recess 70, and the oxygen concentration sensor 50 having a body 118 and a detection part 120. The oxygen concentration sensor 50 is mounted on the protrusion 66 so that the body 118 and the detection part 120 are overlapped with the protrusion 66 in view from the direction of a cylinder axis A and at least a portion of the detection part 120 is located in the exhaust passage 80.
