The device (1) has a retaining unit (4) engaged into a vehicle door (2) e.g. front door, and a counterweight for holding-opening the vehicle door. A rope (7) e.g. steel rope, is provided across a guide roller (6), and the retaining unit is connected with the counterweight by the rope such that length of a region of the rope extended from the retaining unit upto the guide roller is changed according to movement of a vehicle (3) e.g. passenger car. The retaining unit comprises a hollow body engaged into a window weather strip, where the hollow body is made of metal. An independent claim is also included for a method for painting parts of a body of a vehicle.
