The recording pulse information is thereby reduced in size. Also, the provided recording medium and recording/reading device make it possible to record to an existing disc information region. The provided recording medium (801) has an information region (101) in which recording/reading control information is recorded. Said recording/reading control information consists of a forward space reference setting value and a backward space reference setting value. The forward space reference setting value includes: a reference value (1), which is a setting value for a recording pulse corresponding to a given forward space and which is used as a setting value for a recording pulse used when forming a recording mark; and a difference setting value (1), which is a setting value for a recording pulse corresponding to a forward space other than the given forward space and which is represented as a differential with respect to the aforementioned reference value (1). The backward space reference setting value includes: a reference value (2), which is a setting value for a recording pulse corresponding to a given backward space; and a difference setting value (2), which is a setting value for a recording pulse corresponding to a backward space other than the given backward space and which is represented as a differential with respect to the aforementioned reference value (2).
