An electronic thermometer provided with a prediction function, which predicts an equilibrium temperature on the basis of the temporal changes in the actual measured values of the temperature of a site to be measured detected by a temperature detection element, starts predicting with the prediction function when it was determined that the actual measured value detected by the temperature detection element fulfills the conditions to start prediction. Moreover, the electronic thermometer determines whether or not to start measuring low body temperature on the basis of the temporal changes in the actual measured value detected by the temperature detection element. Once it is determined to start measuring the low body temperature, the electronic thermometer performs a low body temperature measurement process which informs the completion of measurement when it is determined that the temporal changes in the actual measured values have stabilized. The low body temperature measurement process can be performed at the same time as the prediction function. Further, the actual measured value is displayed until the actual measured value reaches a first temperature threshold and the predicted value obtained from the prediction function is displayed when the actual measured value surpasses the first temperature threshold.
