PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preliminary polymerization catalyst component giving an ethylene-α-olefin copolymer having a high molding property on melting and having the less fish eyes of film obtained by fabrication, and a method for producing the olefin polymer by using the preliminary polymerization catalyst. SOLUTION: This preliminary polymerization catalyst component for the copolymerization of the ethylene-α-olefin, obtained by the preliminary polymerization of olefins under the presence of a solid catalyst component is provided with that the preliminary polymer obtained by the preliminary polymerization of the olefins satisfies all of the following (a) to (d) requirements. (a) Intrinsic viscosity is≥1 and≤5 dl/g, (b) The value of short chain branches (SCB) per 1,000 carbon atoms is≥5 and≤30, (c) Mw/Mn is≥7 and≤15, and (d) Mz/Mw is≥5 and≤15.
