The invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of pharmacologically interesting indolopyridine derivatives containing tetracyclic tetrahydro-&bgr;-carboline-hydantoines linked to a basic side chain and the corresponding salts, which can be used as Eg5 inhibitor, with very high overall chemical yield and enantiomeric purity.
