The method involves measuring temperature (T1-T3) in local areas (23-25) within an apparatus i.e. plate-type heat exchanger (1) or an external wall (5) of the apparatus. The measured temperature is compared with a temperature target value stored in a control device (30) of a plant, where the temperature target value is measured from rigidity calculation of the local area. A circuit e.g. alarm device (50) or valves (V1, V2), is provided for controlling volumetric flow of fluid streams (F1, F2) flowing into the apparatus depending on the comparison. An independent claim is also included for a safety device for a process technical or chemical plant.
