PURPOSE: A start control device of a synthesis gas engine is provided to maximize effect since the heating value of synthesis gas supplied to an engine is measured and the ignition timing of a throttle valve is controlled so that the start performance decrease of the engine due to the heating value change of synthesis gas fuel is restricted. CONSTITUTION: A start control device of a synthesis gas engine comprises an outlet pipe(20), a combustion chamber(22), a temperature sensor(24), a temperature-heating value change unit, and a control unit(28). The outlet pipe is installed on a synthesis gas pipe, which connects a regulator(14) and a mixer(10). The outlet pipe comprises an opening/closing valve and selectively discharges synthesis gas. The combustion chamber receives the synthetic gas from the outlet pipe. The combustion chamber comprises an ignition plug and an external air port and ignites external air mixed synthesis gas. The temperature sensor is installed in the combustion chamber and measures the combustion temperature of the synthesis gas. The temperature-heating value change unit receives temperature information from the temperature sensor.
