PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external additive for an electrophotographic toner capable of imparting sufficient fluidity to electrophotographic toner particles. SOLUTION: In a method for producing such an external additive for an electrophotographic toner containing acrylic polymer particles obtained by emulsion polymerization of a (meth)acrylic ester-based monomer in an aqueous medium in the presence of a cationic polyvinyl alcohol, a nonionic surfactant and a water-soluble polymerization initiator, the nonionic surfactant is a polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene glycol, wherein the cationic polyvinyl alcohol and the nonionic surfactant are used in an amount of 0.03-0.3 pt.wt. and 0.01-0.1 pt.wt., respectively, based on 100 pts.wt. of the (meth)acrylic ester-based monomer, and the acrylic polymer particles have an average particle diameter of 0.1-1.0μm.
