PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for conveniently evaluating the dispersibility of an active material. SOLUTION: In the method for evaluating a surface characteristic regarding the battery active material using a liquid crystal field as a probe, a conductive auxiliary agent and a solvent, the active material is dispersed and mixed with a liquid crystal material to prepare an active material or carbon conductive auxiliary agent-liquid crystal mixture. A cell has two electrodes counter to each other through a predetermined gap and is filled with the active material-liquid crystal mixture. A sweep voltage component Vo changed at a sweep speed R (V/s), and a signal voltage superimposed on the sweep voltage component and combined with an AC component having a frequency f and a peak-peak amplitude Vp-p are applied between two counter electrodes in the cell.
